अपत्य लाभः सुमहान् भविष्यति तव अनघ ।
कीर्तिम् च अप्रतिमाम् लोके प्राप्स्यसे पुरुषर्षभ ॥ ॥१-३८-७॥
apatya lābhaḥ sumahān bhaviṣyati tava anagha । kīrtim ca apratimām loke prāpsyase puruṣarṣabha ॥ ॥1-38-7॥
Translation
O sinless one! You shall have a very great gain of progeny. And, O bull among men, you shall attain unmatched fame in the world.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे निष्पाप (अनघ)! तुम्हें महान संतान की प्राप्ति होगी। और हे पुरुषश्रेष्ठ! तुम लोक में अनुपम कीर्ति प्राप्त करोगे।
English Commentary
Sage Bhrigu addresses Sagara with high honorifics: 'Anagha' (sinless) and 'Purusharshabha' (bull among men). The address 'Anagha' validates Sagara's spiritual purity after his penance. The boon promises two things: great progeny ('apatya labhah') and unmatched fame ('kirtim apratimam'). This prophecy is deeply ironic and accurate; Sagara's fame becomes eternal literally through the ocean ('Sagara'), which is named after him due to the actions of his sons. The sage's promise of 'unmatched fame' hints at the colossal scale of the events that the sons will trigger—specifically, the excavation of the earth and the eventual descent of the celestial Ganges.

भृगु मुनि सगर को संबोधित करते हुए 'अनघ' (पापरहित) और 'पुरुषर्षभ' (पुरुषों में श्रेष्ठ/वृषभ समान) कहते हैं। 'अनघ' संबोधन यह स्पष्ट करता है कि सगर की निःसंतानता किसी पाप का परिणाम नहीं थी, या उनकी तपस्या ने उनके पूर्व पापों को धो दिया है। वरदान के दो भाग हैं: 'अपत्य लाभः' (संतान प्राप्ति) और 'कीर्तिम् अप्रतिमाम्' (अतुलनीय यश)। सगर की कीर्ति आज भी 'सागर' (समुद्र) के नाम में जीवित है, जो उनके पुत्रों द्वारा खोदा गया था। ऋषि यहाँ भविष्यदृष्टा के रूप में बोल रहे हैं—वे जानते हैं कि यह संतान न केवल वंश बढ़ाएगी बल्कि सगर को अमर कीर्ति भी दिलाएगी, भले ही वह कीर्ति एक त्रासदी (पुत्रों के नाश और गंगा अवतरण) के माध्यम से आए।
