षष्टिम् पुत्र सहस्राणि वाक्यम् एतत् उवाच ह।
गतिम् पुत्रा न पश्यामि रक्षसाम् पुरुषर्षभाः॥ ॥१-३९-११॥
Ṣaṣṭim putra sahasrāṇi vākyam etat uvāca ha। Gatim putrā na paśyāmi rakṣasām puruṣarṣabhāḥ। ॥1-39-11॥
Translation
...spoke these words to his sixty thousand sons: "O bulls among men (my sons)! I do not perceive (understand) the ways/movements of these demons."
हिंदी अनुवाद
...अपने साठ हजार पुत्रों से यह वाक्य कहा: "हे पुरुषश्रेष्ठ पुत्रों! मैं राक्षसों की गति (चाल/विधि) को समझ नहीं पा रहा हूँ (कि उन्होंने मंत्रों से सुरक्षित यज्ञ में कैसे विघ्न डाला)।"
English Commentary
Sagara addresses his legion of sixty thousand sons. His statement, "I do not perceive the ways of the Rakshasas," indicates genuine bafflement. Given that the sacrificial ground was fortified with mantras, the intrusion suggests a supernatural capability that bypasses standard spiritual defenses (which makes sense, as the thief is actually Indra, a god, not a standard demon). By addressing his sons as Puruṣarṣabhāḥ (Bulls among men), Sagara invokes their martial pride. He is effectively imparting that this mission requires not just strength, but vigilance against an unseen and deceptive enemy.
