Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
मंत्र पूतैः महाभागैः आस्थितो हि महाक्रतुः।
तत् गच्छत विचिन्वध्वम् पुत्रका भद्रम् अस्तु वः॥ ॥१-३९-१२॥
Mantra pūtaiḥ mahābhāgaiḥ āsthito hi mahākratuḥ। Tat gacchata vicinvadhvam putrakā bhadram astu vaḥ॥ ॥1-39-12॥
Translation
"This great sacrifice is indeed being presided over by illustrious priests purified by mantras. Therefore, go and search (for the horse/thief), O dear sons! May fortune be with you."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"यह महायज्ञ मंत्रों से पवित्र किए गए महाभाग ऋत्विजों द्वारा अधिष्ठित (सुरक्षित) है। अतः हे पुत्रों! जाओ और (चोर को) ढूँढो। तुम्हारा कल्याण हो।"
English Commentary
Sagara reinforces his faith in the sanctity of the ritual (Mantra pūtaiḥ), absolving the priests of negligence. The breach is anomalous, necessitating a physical search. The command Vicinvadhvam implies a thorough investigation or sifting through the land. The phrase Bhadram astu vaḥ (May good betide you) is a standard but poignant paternal blessing. In the context of the epic, this is a tragic foreshadowing. Sagara sends his sons out with a blessing for their safety, unaware that they are marching toward their doom at the fiery glance of Sage Kapila.

सगर यहाँ स्पष्ट करते हैं कि आंतरिक सुरक्षा (मंत्र और ऋत्विज) में कोई कमी नहीं थी। 'मंत्र पूतैः' (मंत्रों से पवित्र) विशेषण यह बताता है कि गलती पुजारियों की नहीं है। सगर अपने पुत्रों को 'विचिन्वध्वम्' (खोजो/ानबीन करो) का आदेश देते हैं। 'भद्रम् अस्तु वः' (तुम्हारा कल्याण हो) एक पिता का आशीर्वाद है। भारतीय संस्कृति में किसी भी कठिन कार्य या यात्रा पर भेजते समय 'स्वस्तिवाचन' या शुभ-कामना देने की परंपरा है। सगर को शायद अनहोनी का आभास है, इसलिए वे पुत्रों को सुरक्षा कवच के रूप में अपना आशीर्वाद दे रहे हैं।
