श्रोतुम् इच्छामि भद्रम् ते विस्तरेण कथाम् इमाम् ।
पूर्वजो मे कथम् ब्रह्मन् यज्ञम् वै समुपाहरत् ॥ ॥१-३९-२॥
śrotum icchāmi bhadram te vistareṇa kathām imām । pūrvajo me katham brahman yajñam vai samupāharat ॥ ॥1-39-2॥
Translation
"I wish to hear this story in detail, may good betide you. O Brahman, how indeed did my ancestor perform the sacrifice?"

"हे ब्रह्मन्! आपका कल्याण हो (भद्रम् ते)। मैं इस कथा को विस्तार से सुनना चाहता हूँ कि मेरे पूर्वज ने यज्ञ का अनुष्ठान कैसे किया?"
English Commentary
Rama asks for a detailed account ('vistarena') of the sacrifice. His politeness is evident in the phrase 'bhadram te' (may good happen to you/blessings be upon you). By asking "how" his ancestor performed the rite, Rama shows an interest in the procedural and challenges of the Ashvamedha. This is significant because the Ashvamedha is the most complex and dangerous of royal rites, involving the release of a horse into foreign territories. Rama's curiosity propels the narrative from a biography of Sagara to the specific event that triggered the descent of the Ganga.
