योजनानाम् सहस्राणि षष्टिम् तु रघुनंदन ।
बिभिदुर् धरणीम् राम रसा तलम् अनुत्तमम् ॥ ॥१-३९-२०॥
yojanānām sahasrāṇi ṣaṣṭim tu raghunandana । bibhidur dharaṇīm rāma rasā talam anuttamam ॥ ॥1-39-20॥
Translation
O Raghunandana Rama! They dug through the earth to a depth of sixty thousand yojanas, reaching the incomparable region of Rasatala.

हे रघुनंदन राम! उन्होंने साठ हजार योजन नीचे तक पृथ्वी को खोद डाला और वे सर्वोत्तम 'रसातल' तक पहुँच गए।
English Commentary
This verse quantifies the unimaginable extent of their excavation—sixty thousand yojanas deep. While this figure is mythological, it conveys the sheer magnitude of the disruption; they essentially drilled through the crust to the mythological underworld. Reaching Rasatala is significant. In Vedic cosmology, Rasatala is a deep, rocky realm often associated with demons and nagas. By breaching this layer, the sons of Sagara trespassed into a realm not meant for surface dwellers. This act symbolizes the extreme lengths to which arrogance can drive humans, pushing past natural boundaries to invade hidden dimensions. It serves as a narrative bridge, moving the action from the physical earth to the metaphysical/divine realms where they will encounter Kapila.
