Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अयम् यज्ञ हरो अस्माकम् अनेन अश्वो अपनीयते ।
इति ते सर्व भूतानि हिंसन्ति सगर आत्मजः ॥ ॥१-३९-२५॥
ayam yajña haro asmākam anena aśvo apanīyate । iti te sarva bhūtāni hiṃsanti sagara ātmajaḥ ॥ ॥1-39-25॥
Translation
"This one is the destroyer of our sacrifice; the horse has been stolen by this one"—thinking thus, the sons of Sagara are harming all living beings.
हिंदी अनुवाद
"यही हमारे यज्ञ का विनाशक है, इसी ने अश्व चुराया है"—ऐसा मानकर सगर के पुत्र सभी प्राणियों की हिंसा कर रहे हैं।
English Commentary
This verse concludes the Devas' complaint by explaining the modus operandi of the princes. Driven by paranoia and desperation, the sons of Sagara accuse every being they encounter of stealing the horse ('By this one the horse is taken'). The phrase ayam yajña haro (this one is the stealer/destroyer of the sacrifice) serves as their justification for violence. They have become judge, jury, and executioner. The word hiṃsanti (they are harming/killing) confirms active violence. It illustrates the danger of a singular, obsessive goal devoid of wisdom—everyone becomes an enemy. The Devas highlight this lack of discrimination to Brahma to justify why divine intervention is necessary to stop them.

यह श्लोक सगर के पुत्रों की विकृत मानसिकता को उजागर करता है। वे संदेह के आधार पर किसी को भी मार रहे हैं। उनकी तर्कशक्ति क्रोध से ढंक गई है। जो भी उन्हें दिखता है, वे उसे ही चोर ('अश्वो अपनीयते') और यज्ञ-विघ्नकर्ता ('यज्ञ हरो') मान लेते हैं। 'इति' (इस प्रकार सोचकर) शब्द उनकी भ्रांति को दर्शाता है। वे बिना प्रमाण के दंड दे रहे हैं। यह 'मत्स्य न्याय' (बड़ी मछली छोटी को खा जाती है) जैसा अराजक व्यवहार है। देवताओं की चिंता यह है कि इस अंधाधुंध हिंसा में निर्दोष प्राणी पिस रहे हैं। यह श्लोक शक्ति के मद में चूर मनुष्य की उस प्रवृत्ति का परिचायक है जहाँ वह अपनी असफलता का दोष दूसरों पर मढ़कर उन्हें नष्ट करने लगता है।
