स पर्वत वनाम् कृत्स्नाम् पृथिवीम् रघुनंदन ।
धारयामास शिरसा विरूपाक्षो महागजः ॥ ॥१-४०-१४॥
sa parvata vanām kṛtsnām pṛthivīm raghunandana । dhārayāmāsa śirasā virūpākṣo mahāgajaḥ ॥ ॥1-40-14॥
Translation
O Raghunandana (descendant of Raghu)! That great elephant Virupaksha held the entire earth, along with its mountains and forests, upon his head.

हे रघुनन्दन (राम)! उस महागज विरूपाक्ष ने पर्वतों और वनों सहित सम्पूर्ण पृथ्वी को अपने मस्तक पर धारण कर रखा था।
English Commentary
Addressing Rama as 'Raghunandana', the narrator Vishvamitra details the burden carried by Virupaksha. The elephant supports not just the crust, but the krtsnam prthivim (entire earth) inclusive of its heavy mountains and forests upon his head (sirasa). This imagery reinforces the ancient cosmological view that the stability of the terrestrial world relies on these divine entities. The verse underscores the immense strength and endurance of the Diggaja, portraying him as a silent, steadfast bearer of the world's weight.
