English Commentary
The sons insult the sage calling him durmedhah (evil-minded or foolish), unaware that they are addressing the Supreme Being. They arrogantly announce their lineage as "Sagara's sons," using their father's name to intimidate rather than to uphold his honor. The verse breaks off with "Hearing those words..." building suspense. The narrator addresses Rama, contrasting Rama's humility with the fatal arrogance of his ancestors displayed here.

पुत्रों की धृष्टता यहाँ चरम पर है। वे भगवान कपिल को 'दुर्मेधः' (दुष्ट बुद्धि वाला या मूर्ख) कह रहे हैं। वे अपने कुल का परिचय 'सगरात्मजान' (सगर के पुत्र) के रूप में गर्व से देते हैं, मानो यह परिचय उन्हें किसी भी अधर्म को करने का अधिकार देता हो। विश्वामित्र राम को 'रघुनंदन' कहकर संबोधित करते हैं, जो राम (एक आदर्श पुत्र) और सगर पुत्रों (उदंड पुत्रों) के बीच के अंतर को सूक्ष्म रूप से रेखांकित करता है।
