पृथिव्याः च अपि निर्भेदो दृष्ट एव सनातनः ।
सगरस्य च पुत्राणाम् विनाशो दीर्घ दर्शिनाम् ॥ ॥१-४०-४॥
pṛthivyāḥ ca api nirbhedo dṛṣṭa eva sanātanaḥ । sagarasya ca putrāṇām vināśo dīrgha darśinām ॥ ॥1-40-4॥
Translation
The piercing of the earth and the destruction of Sagara's sons have already been foreseen by the eternal, far-sighted ones (seers/fate).

दीर्घदर्शियों (दैवज्ञों/ज्ञानियों) ने पृथ्वी का भेदन (खोदा जाना) और सगर के पुत्रों का विनाश—यह सब पहले से ही सनातन (नित्य) रूप से देखा हुआ (निश्चित) है।
English Commentary
This verse underscores the concept of fatalism and cosmic planning. Brahma states that the ecological disaster (piercing of the earth) and the tragic end of the princes are events that have been dṛṣṭa (seen/foreseen) by the dīrgha darśinām (the far-sighted ones/Providence). Nothing happens outside the will of Time (Kala). Brahma advises the Devas to adopt a detached view; what appears to be chaos is actually a pre-ordained script playing out. This perspective removes the burden of anxiety from the Devas, as they realize the situation is under the control of a higher cosmic law aimed at restoring balance.

ब्रह्मा जी नियति (Destiny) के सिद्धांत को समझा रहे हैं। जो कुछ भी घटित हो रहा है—चाहे वह पृथ्वी का खोदा जाना हो या सगर के पुत्रों की मृत्यु—यह सब 'दृष्ट' (देखा जा चुका) है। 'दीर्घ दर्शिनाम्' का अर्थ है वे ज्ञानी जो भूत, भविष्य और वर्तमान को एक साथ देख सकते हैं। ब्रह्मा जी कह रहे हैं कि यह कोई आकस्मिक दुर्घटना नहीं है, बल्कि एक 'सनातन' (शाश्वत) योजना का हिस्सा है। देवताओं को घबराने की आवश्यकता नहीं है क्योंकि यह विनाशकारी लीला सृष्टि के संतुलन के लिए आवश्यक है और विधि के विधान के अनुसार ही चल रही है। यह श्लोक गीता के उस सिद्धांत की याद दिलाता है जहाँ कृष्ण अर्जुन से कहते हैं कि "ये सब मेरे द्वारा पहले ही मारे जा चुके हैं।"
