भस्म राशी कृतान् एतान् पावयेत् लोक कांतया ।
तया क्लिन्नम् इदम् भस्म गंगया लोक कान्तया ।
षष्टिम् पुत्र सहस्राणि स्वर्ग लोकम् गमिष्यति ॥ ॥१-४१-२०॥
Bhasma rāśī kṛtān etān pāvayet loka kāntayā । Tayā klinnam idam bhasma gaṃgayā loka kāntayā । Ṣaṣṭim putra sahasrāṇi svarga lokam gamiṣyati ॥ ॥1-41-20॥
Translation
"She, who is beloved of the worlds, will purify these heaps of ashes. When this ash is wetted by that Ganga, the beloved of the worlds, the sixty thousand sons will go to the heavenly world."

"भस्म के ढेर में परिवर्तित इन सबको वह लोक-प्रिया (गंगा) पवित्र कर देगी। उस लोक-वंदिता गंगा के जल से यह भस्म जब गीला होगा, तब साठ हजार पुत्र स्वर्ग लोक को प्राप्त होंगे।"
English Commentary
This verse outlines the spiritual mechanism of salvation for the Sagara sons. Garuda asserts that the mere contact of the ashes with the waters of Ganga will liberate the souls. The repetition of loka kāntayā (beloved of the worlds) emphasizes Ganga's universal appeal and supreme status among rivers. The specific promise is that the sixty thousand sons (ṣaṣṭim putra sahasrāṇi) will attain Svarga (heaven). This establishes the theological foundation of the belief that immersion of ashes in the Ganges guarantees liberation (Moksha) or heaven, a belief held devoutly to this day.

यहाँ गंगा की महिमा और मोक्षदायिनी शक्ति का वर्णन है। 'लोक कान्तया' (लोकों की प्रिय/सुन्दरी) विशेषण गंगा के सौंदर्य और पवित्रता दोनों को दर्शाता है। गरुड़ एक निश्चित भविष्यवाणी करते हैं: मात्र गंगा जल के स्पर्श से (क्लिन्नम्) भस्म पवित्र हो जाएगी और सगर पुत्रों को स्वर्ग प्राप्त होगा। हिंदू धर्म में अस्थि-विसर्जन और गंगा का जो गहरा सम्बन्ध है, उसका मूल यहाँ देखा जा सकता है। यह श्लोक आश्वासन देता है कि पाप कितना भी घोर क्यों न हो, पतित-पावनी गंगा उसे धोने में सक्षम हैं।
