Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सुपर्ण वचनम् श्रुत्वा सः अंशुमान् अतिवीर्यवान् ।
त्वरितम् हयम् आदाय पुनर् आयात् महायशाः ॥ ॥१-४१-२२॥
Suparṇa vacanam śrutvā saḥ aṃśumān ativīryavān । Tvaritam hayam ādāya punar āyāt mahāyaśāḥ ॥ ॥1-41-22॥
Translation
Hearing the words of Suparna (Garuda), the exceedingly powerful and illustrious Anshuman took the horse and returned swiftly (to the sacrificial grounds).
हिंदी अनुवाद
गरुड़ (सुपर्ण) के वचनों को सुनकर, वह अत्यंत पराक्रमी और महायशस्वी अंशुमान अश्व को साथ लेकर शीघ्रता से (यज्ञस्थल की ओर) लौट आए।
English Commentary
This verse highlights Anshuman’s pragmatism and strength of character. Despite receiving the heavy news of his ancestors' demise and the monumental task of bringing the Ganges, he does not succumb to inaction. The epithet ativīryavān (possessing great valor) suggests mental resilience as much as physical strength. He prioritizes the immediate duty—returning the horse to complete the King's sacrifice. He is termed mahāyaśāḥ (of great fame) because he succeeded where 60,000 others failed, securing both the horse and the knowledge required for the future salvation of his lineage.

इस श्लोक में अंशुमान की तत्परता और आज्ञाकारिता पुनः प्रदर्शित होती है। गरुड़ द्वारा बताए गए भारी सत्य (पितरों का वध और गंगा अवतरण की कठिन चुनौती) को जानने के बाद भी, अंशुमान विचलित होकर वहीं नहीं रुके। 'अतिवीर्यवान्' विशेषण यह दर्शाता है कि उन्होंने अपनी मानसिक दृढ़ता बनाए रखी और वर्तमान कर्तव्य (अश्वमेध यज्ञ की पूर्णता) को प्राथमिकता दी। वे 'महायशाः' (महान यश वाले) इसलिए कहलाए क्योंकि उन्होंने न केवल अश्व को सुरक्षित खोज निकाला, बल्कि अपने कुल के भविष्य के लिए एक मार्ग (गंगा का अवतरण) भी खोज लिया था।
