अन्तर् भौमानि सत्त्वानि वीर्यवन्ति महान्ति च ।
तेषाम् त्वम् प्रतिघात अर्थम् स असिम् गृह्णीष्व कार्मुकम् ॥ ॥१-४१-३॥
antar bhaumāni sattvāni vīryavanti mahānti ca । teṣām tvam pratighāta artham sa asim gṛhṇīṣva kārmukam ॥ ॥1-41-3॥
Translation
Within the earth live powerful and gigantic beings. To ward off their attacks, take this sword and bow with you.
हिंदी अनुवाद
पृथ्वी के भीतर (रसातल में) महान और वीर्यवान प्राणी रहते हैं। उनके आघात (आक्रमण) को रोकने के लिए तुम तलवार (असि) और धनुष (कार्मुक) साथ ले लो।
English Commentary
Sagara displays practical wisdom and caution. He warns Anshuman that the subterranean realms contain viryavanti (valorous) and mahanti (huge) beings, implying that the previous expedition might have underestimated these threats. He explicitly commands Anshuman to arm himself with asim (sword) and karmukam (bow). The phrase pratighata artham (for the purpose of counter-attack/defense) suggests a defensive posture—use weapons only if attacked, contrasting with the aggression of the 60,000 sons who dug up the earth indiscriminately.

सगर अपने पौत्र की सुरक्षा के प्रति सचेत हैं। उन्हें ज्ञात है कि रसातल केवल मिट्टी और चट्टान नहीं है, बल्कि वहां 'अन्तर् भौमानि सत्त्वानि' (भूमिगत रहस्यमय प्राणी) निवास करते हैं जो शक्तिशाली हैं। पिछली बार सगर के पुत्रों ने संभवतः बिना पर्याप्त सावधानी के अभियान चलाया था। इस बार सगर अंशुमान को पूरी तरह सशस्त्र होकर जाने का निर्देश देते हैं। 'प्रतिघात अर्थम्' का तात्पर्य है आत्मरक्षा के लिए; इसका अर्थ यह नहीं है कि अनावश्यक हिंसा की जाए, बल्कि यदि कोई बाधा आए तो उसका सामना किया जा सके।
