अभिवाद्य अभिवाद्यान् त्वम् हत्वा विघ्न करान् अपि ।
सिद्धार्थः संनिवर्तस्व मम यज्ञस्य पारगः ॥ ॥१-४१-४॥
abhivādya abhivādyān tvam hatvā vighna karān api । siddhārthaḥ saṃnivartasva mama yajñasya pāragaḥ ॥ ॥1-41-4॥
Translation
Bowing to those worthy of salutation and killing those who create obstacles, return successful (Siddhartha) and enable the completion of my sacrifice.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जो वंदनीय हैं, उन्हें प्रणाम करना और जो विघ्न डालने वाले हैं, उनका वध करना। (इस प्रकार) तुम सफल मनोरथ (सिद्धार्थ) होकर लौटो और मेरे यज्ञ को पूरा करो।
English Commentary
Sagara instructs Anshuman on the crucial discernment needed for leadership: knowing when to bow (abhivadya) and when to strike (hatva). This specifically corrects the fatal flaw of the 60,000 sons, who failed to distinguish a divine sage from a thief. Sagara envisions Anshuman returning as siddharthah (one whose goal is accomplished). The ultimate objective remains the completion of the Ashwamedha Yajna, which has been stalled. This verse encapsulates the Kshatriya dharma—protection of the rite through righteous violence and respect for the holy.

यह श्लोक कूटनीति और धर्म का सार है। सगर अंशुमान को 'विवेक' का पाठ पढ़ा रहे हैं—किसे नमन करना है और किसे दंड देना है, इसका ज्ञान होना आवश्यक है। सगर के पुत्रों में इसी विवेक का अभाव था; उन्होंने ऋषि कपिल (वंदनीय) पर भी आक्रमण कर दिया था। सगर कहते हैं 'अभिवाद्य अभिवाद्यान्' (पूजनीय को पूजो) और 'हत्वा विघ्न करान्' (शत्रु को मारो)। लक्ष्य है 'यज्ञस्य पारगः'—यज्ञ की पूर्णता। यह उपदेश जीवन में सफलता के लिए संतुलन (विनम्रता और वीरता) के महत्व को दर्शाता है।
