Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
उक्त वाक्यम् तु राजानम् सर्वलोक पितामहः ।
प्रत्युवाच शुभाम् वाणीम् मधुरम् मधुर अक्षराम् ॥ ॥१-४२-२१॥
ukta vākyam tu rājānam sarvaloka pitāmahaḥ । pratyuvāca śubhām vāṇīm madhuram madhura akṣarām ॥ ॥1-42-21॥
Translation
Upon the King speaking these words, the Grandfather of all worlds replied to him with auspicious speech, sweet and composed of sweet letters.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राजा (भगीरथ) के ऐसा वचन कहने पर, सर्वलोक पितामह (ब्रह्मा) ने मधुर अक्षरों वाली शुभ वाणी में उन्हें उत्तर दिया।
English Commentary
Brahma’s response is characterized by extreme gentleness and affection, described as madhuram madhura akṣarām (sweet and composed of sweet syllables). This indicates that the Creator was not just granting a transactional boon but was genuinely moved by Bhagiratha's selfless requests—one for his ancestors and one for his lineage, with nothing for his own personal enjoyment. The use of shubham vanim (auspicious speech) sets a positive tone, signaling that the boons are granted and that the outcome will be beneficial for the world.

ब्रह्मा जी की प्रतिक्रिया भगीरथ के प्रति उनके वात्सल्य को दर्शाती है। 'मधुरम् मधुर अक्षराम्' का प्रयोग यह बताता है कि ब्रह्मा जी न केवल वर देने के लिए तैयार थे, बल्कि वे भगीरथ की निस्वार्थ प्रार्थनाओं से अत्यंत प्रसन्न भी थे। जब देवता प्रसन्न होते हैं, तो उनकी वाणी में कठोरता नहीं, बल्कि कोमलता और शुभता (कल्याण) होती है। यह श्लोक वातावरण को शांत और आशावादी बनाता है, यह संकेत देते हुए कि भगीरथ की दोनों प्रार्थनाएँ स्वीकार कर ली गई हैं।
