पारिप्लव गताः च अपि देवताः तत्र विष्ठिताः ।
तत् अद्भुततमम् लोके गंगा अवतरम् उत्तमम् ॥ ॥१-४३-१९॥
pāriplava gatāḥ ca api devatāḥ tatra viṣṭhitāḥ । tat adbhutatamam loke gangā avataram uttamam ॥ ॥1-43-19॥
Translation
The gods stood there, trembling/agitated (with excitement) or hovering. That excellent descent of Ganga was the most wonderful event in the world.
हिंदी अनुवाद
देवता गण वहाँ (आकाश में) चंचल या विस्मित होकर स्थित थे। लोक में गंगा का वह उत्तम अवतरण अत्यंत अद्भुत (अद्भुततम) था।
English Commentary
The reaction of the gods is described as pariplava—restless, quivering, or hovering, indicating high excitement or awe. The poet uses the superlative adbhutatamam (most wonderful/miraculous) to categorize the Ganga Avataram. In the context of the Ramayana's cosmology, this is a singularity—a moment where the barriers between planes of existence were breached for the welfare of humanity, making it the supreme spectacle of the age.
हिंदी टीका
'पारिप्लव' का अर्थ यहाँ 'हिलते-डुलते' या 'उत्तेजना से चंचल' होना है। देवता स्थिर नहीं रह पा रहे थे क्योंकि दृश्य इतना रोमांचक था। कवि वाल्मीकि इसे 'अद्भुततमम्' (Superlative of Wonderful) कहते हैं। संसार के इतिहास में आकाश से जल का इतना विशाल प्रवाह पृथ्वी पर आना और पृथ्वी का उसे (शिव की कृपा से) सहन कर लेना—यह अद्वितीय था। यह श्लोक घटना के प्रभाव (Impact) को रेखांकित करता है।
