शत आदित्यम् इव आभाति गगनम् गत तोयदम् ।
शिंशुमार उरग गणैः मीनैः अपि च चंचलैः ॥ ॥१-४३-२१॥
Śata ādityam iva ābhāti gaganam gata toyadam |
Śiṃśumāra uraga gaṇaiḥ mīnaiḥ api ca cañcalaiḥ ॥1-43-21॥
Translation
Though the sky was devoid of clouds, it shone brilliantly as if illuminated by a hundred suns. This radiance was caused by the glittering spray of the falling waters, teeming with restless porpoises, serpents, and shoals of fish descending along with the stream.

उस समय आकाश बादलों से रहित था, फिर भी गंगा जी की गिरती हुई धारा के साथ आए हुए चंचल ग्राह (मगरमच्छ/संसुमार), सांपों और मछलियों के समूहों के कारण वह (आकाश) ऐसा चमक रहा था मानों वहां सौ सूर्य एक साथ उदित हो गए हों।
English Commentary
This verse employs a magnificent hyperbole, comparing the brilliance of the descending river to 'a hundred suns' (shata-adityam). Since the sky was clear of clouds, the refraction of light through the massive, turbulent column of water and its spray created a blinding luminosity. The inclusion of aquatic life—shimshumara (interpreted as gangetic porpoises or dolphins), serpents, and fish—falling from the heavens adds a layer of dynamic realism to the mythological event.
