जगाम च पुनः गंग भगीरथ रथ अनुगा ।
सागरम् च अपि संप्रप्ता सा सरित् प्रवरा तदा ॥ ॥१-४३-३८॥
Jagāma ca punaḥ gaṅga bhagīratha ratha anugā |
Sāgaram ca api saṃpraptā sā sarit pravarā tadā ॥1-43-38॥
Translation
Following the chariot of Bhagiratha again, the Ganga, the best of rivers, proceeded further and eventually reached the ocean.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(जह्नु ऋषि से मुक्त होकर) नदियों में श्रेष्ठ वह गंगा पुनः भगीरथ के रथ के पीछे-पीछे चलीं और अंततः सागर (समुद्र तट) तक जा पहुँचीं।
English Commentary
The narrative resumes its forward motion. With the obstruction cleared and a new title acquired, Ganga follows Bhagiratha once more. The repetition of the phrase 'Bhagiratha ratha anuga' (following Bhagiratha's chariot) signifies the restoration of the mission. She reaches the Sagara (ocean/sea). Historically and mythologically, this traces the path of the river from the Himalayas across the plains of India to the Bay of Bengal. However, in this specific context, reaching the 'ocean' implies reaching the excavation made by the sons of Sagara, which leads to the netherworlds (Rasatala). The persistence of Bhagiratha is highlighted here; interruptions occurred, but the journey continued until the destination was reached.

बाधा दूर होने के बाद यात्रा पुनः आरंभ हुई। 'पुनः... भगीरथ रथ अनुगा' का अर्थ है कि पुरानी व्यवस्था फिर से स्थापित हो गई—भगीरथ आगे और गंगा पीछे। ऋषि जह्नु के आश्रम से निकलकर गंगा अब अपने अंतिम गंतव्य, सागर की ओर बढ़ीं। 'सरित् प्रवरा' (नदियों में श्रेष्ठ) विशेषण का प्रयोग यह याद दिलाने के लिए है कि तमाम बाधाओं के बावजूद गंगा की श्रेष्ठता अक्षुण्ण रही। सागर तक पहुँचना भगीरथ के वर्षों के संघर्ष का फल था। यहाँ 'सागर' का अर्थ वह स्थान है जहाँ राजा सगर के 60,000 पुत्रों की भस्म पड़ी थी (जो पाताल लोक के प्रवेश द्वार के पास था या सूखा हुआ समुद्र तल था)। यह मिलन एक लंबे वियोग का अंत था—पृथ्वी की प्यास और पूर्वजों की मुक्ति की प्रतीक्षा अब समाप्त होने को थी।
