Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तिरोभावयितुम् बुद्धिम् चक्रे त्रिनयनः तदा ।
सा तस्मिन् पतिता पुण्या पुण्ये रुद्रस्य मूर्धनि॥ ॥१-४३-७॥
tirobhāvayitum buddhim cakre trinayanaḥ tadā । sā tasmin patitā puṇyā puṇye rudrasya mūrdhani ॥ ॥1-43-7॥
Translation
Then the Three-eyed Lord decided to conceal/vanish her. That holy (Ganga) fell upon the holy head of Rudra.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब त्रिनेत्रधारी (शिव) ने उसे (गंगा को) विलुप्त (गायब) कर देने का विचार किया। वह पवित्र गंगा, रुद्र (शिव) के पवित्र मस्तक पर गिरी।
English Commentary
Shiva’s strategy is tirobhavayitum—to make her disappear or conceal her within himself. Despite her pride, the verse acknowledges her inherent sanctity (punya), and she falls onto an equally sanctified locus—the head of Rudra. The repetition of punya suggests that the contact between the two is a sacred event, even if motivated by a lesson in humility. The "Three-eyed" one (Trinayana) sees past the physical torrent to the intent within, reacting with cosmic containment.

शिव ने गंगा को दंड देने की बजाय उन्हें अपनी जटाओं में ही विलीन (तिरोभाव) करने की योजना बनाई। यहाँ गंगा और शिव के मस्तक दोनों के लिए 'पुण्य' शब्द का प्रयोग हुआ है—'पुण्या' (गंगा) और 'पुण्ये' (मस्तक)। इसका अर्थ है कि यद्यपि गंगा में अहंकार था, फिर भी उनका स्वरूप पवित्र है, और शिव का स्पर्श उस पवित्रता को और बढ़ा रहा है। 'त्रिनयनः' (तीन आँखों वाले) शब्द शिव की दिव्य दृष्टि और शक्ति का द्योतक है। गंगा शिव के सिर पर गिरीं, पर पृथ्वी पर नहीं पहुँचीं।
