सा त्वया समतिक्रान्ता प्रतिज्ञा पुरुषर्षभ ।
प्राप्तो असि परमम् लोके यशः परम संमतम् ॥१-४४-१२॥
sā tvayā samatikrāntā pratijñā puruṣarṣabha |
prāpto asi paramam loke yaśaḥ parama saṃmatam ॥1-44-12॥
Translation
O best among men! You have fulfilled that vow. In this world, you have attained supreme glory and the highest regard.

हे पुरुषश्रेष्ठ! तुमने उस प्रतिज्ञा को पूर्ण कर दिखाया है। इस लोक में तुमने परम प्रतिष्ठा और अत्यंत सम्माननीय यश प्राप्त कर लिया है।
English Commentary
Lord Brahma continues his praise, addressing Bhagiratha as 'Purusharshabha' (Best among men/Bull among men), signifying his strength and leadership. The 'Pratijna' (vow) mentioned here refers to the arduous ancestral duty to liberate the sons of Sagara, a burden carried by generations of the Ikshvaku dynasty. Brahma confirms that Bhagiratha has successfully transcended this vow. The glory (Yashas) Bhagiratha has attained is described as 'Parama Sammatam'—universally accepted and highly revered, not just by mortals but by the divine order as well. This highlights a key Dharmic principle: the pursuit of selfless duty (Nishkama Karma) for the welfare of ancestors leads to the highest form of renown. Bhagiratha's success is not merely a physical feat of engineering a river's path, but a spiritual triumph that has cemented his legacy eternally in the cosmos.

ब्रह्मा जी भगीरथ को 'पुरुषर्षभ' (पुरुषों में श्रेष्ठ या वृषभ समान शक्तिशाली) कहकर संबोधित करते हैं। यहाँ 'प्रतिज्ञा' शब्द का अर्थ केवल एक साधारण वचन नहीं, बल्कि इक्ष्वाकु वंश का वह संकल्प है जो सगर के साठ हजार पुत्रों के उद्धार के लिए लिया गया था। ब्रह्मा जी पुष्टि करते हैं कि भगीरथ ने उस कठिन संकल्प को पार (समतिक्रान्ता) कर लिया है, जो असंभव प्रतीत होता था। इस श्लोक में 'यश' (कीर्ति) को 'परम संमतम्' कहा गया है, जिसका अर्थ है कि यह यश केवल मनुष्यों द्वारा नहीं, बल्कि देवताओं और ऋषियों द्वारा भी अनुमोदित और सम्मानित है। यह श्लोक स्पष्ट करता है कि धर्म के मार्ग पर चल कर, पितरों के उद्धार हेतु किया गया कठोर तप न केवल आध्यात्मिक फल देता है, बल्कि इस भौतिक संसार में भी अमिट कीर्ति स्थापित करता है। भगीरथ का नाम अब प्रयत्न की पराकाष्ठा का पर्याय बन गया है।
