तारिता नरशार्दूल दिवम् याताः च देववत् ।
षष्टिः पुत्र सहस्राणि सगरस्य महात्मनः ॥ ॥१-४४-३॥
Tāritā naraśārdūla divam yātāḥ ca devavat |
Ṣaṣṭiḥ putra sahasrāṇi sagarasya mahātmanaḥ ॥1-44-3॥
Translation
(Brahma said:) O Tiger among men! The sixty thousand sons of the high-souled Sagara have been delivered (redeemed) and have ascended to heaven like gods.

(ब्रह्माजी ने कहा:) हे नरों में श्रेष्ठ (भगीरथ)! महात्मा सगर के साठ हजार पुत्र तार दिए गए (मुक्त हो गए) और वे देवताओं की भांति स्वर्ग लोक को चले गए।
English Commentary
Brahma confirms the success of the mission with the word Tarita (crossed over/saved). Bhagiratha is addressed as Narashardula (Tiger among men), a warrior epithet used here for a spiritual conqueror. The transformation is instantaneous—from piles of ashes in the netherworld to celestial beings in heaven (divam yatah). The phrase devavat (like gods) implies they attained a high state of existence, likely Swarga, correcting the spiritual stagnation caused by Kapil Muni's curse. This verse underscores the power of Tarpana (water oblations) combined with the sanctity of the Ganga; it breaks the chains of karma that held the ancestors captive for generations.

ब्रह्माजी यहाँ भगीरथ को 'नरशार्दूल' (पुरुषों में व्याघ्र/श्रेष्ठ) कहकर संबोधित करते हैं, जो उनके पराक्रम और दृढ़ निश्चय का सम्मान है। मुख्य समाचार सुनाया जाता है: 'तारिता'—वे तर गए। सगर के पुत्र, जो पीढ़ियों से प्रेत योनि या अधोगति में थे, वे अब 'देववत्' (देवताओं के समान) दिव्य शरीर धारण करके स्वर्ग चले गए। 'महात्मनः सगरस्य' का उल्लेख करके ब्रह्मा यह भी याद दिलाते हैं कि यह सगर का ही पुण्य और विस्तार था, जिसे भगीरथ ने पूर्णता प्रदान की। संख्या साठ हजार है, जो सामूहिक मुक्ति (Mass Salvation) का प्रतीक है। यह सिद्ध करता है कि एक सुपुत्र का सत्कर्म उसके हजारों पूर्वजों का उद्धार कर सकता है।
