अथ रामो महाप्राज्ञो विश्वामित्रम् महामुनिम् ।
पप्रच्छ प्रांजलिः भूत्वा विशालाम् उत्तमाम् पुरीम् ॥१-४५-११॥
atha rāmo mahāprājño viśvāmitram mahāmunim |
papraccha prāñjaliḥ bhūtvā viśālāṃ uttamām purīm ॥1-45-11॥
Translation
Then, the highly wise Rama, with folded hands, asked the great sage Vishvamitra about that excellent city, Vishala.

तब महाबुद्धिमान राम ने हाथ जोड़कर महामुनि विश्वामित्र से उस उत्तम नगरी 'विशाला' के विषय में पूछा।
English Commentary
Rama, described here as Mahaprajna (of great wisdom), exhibits intellectual curiosity. Seeing the magnificent city, he wants to know its provenance. He adopts the posture of Pranjali (palms joined in reverence) before questioning his teacher, Mahamuni Vishvamitra. This body language signifies respect and readiness to receive knowledge. Rama asks about the 'excellent city' (Uttamam purim). His inquiry is not idle tourism; he senses a significant history behind such a prosperous place. This question serves as the narrative hook for Vishvamitra to narrate the ancient history of the area, leading into the famous episode of the Churning of the Ocean (Samudra Manthan) associated with this location.
