कतमो राज वंशो अयम् विशालायाम् महामुने ।
श्रोतुम् इच्छामि भद्रम् ते परम् कौतूहलम् हि मे ॥१-४५-१२॥
katamo rāja vaṃśo ayam viśālāyām mahāmune |
śrotum icchāmi bhadram te param kautūhalam hi me ॥1-45-12॥
Translation
O Great Sage! Which royal dynasty is this that rules in Vishala? May prosperity be with you; I desire to hear this, for I have a great curiosity.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे महामुने! विशाला नगरी में यह कौन सा राजवंश (शासन करता) है? आपका कल्याण हो, मैं इसे सुनना चाहता हूँ, क्योंकि मेरे मन में अत्यंत कौतूहल है।
English Commentary
Rama displays the intellectual curiosity befitting a future king. Upon seeing the prosperous city of Vishala, he inquires about its ruling dynasty (Raja vamsha). The phrase param kautuhalam (great curiosity) indicates that Rama is not merely making conversation but is genuinely interested in the political and historical landscape of the regions he traverses. Addressing Vishvamitra as Mahamune (Great Sage), he respectfully requests the lineage history. This verse serves as a transition from the description of the city to the narration of the "Samudra Manthan" (Churning of the Ocean), as the lineage of Vishala is deeply connected to the events following that cosmic episode.
