क्षण भूत इव नौ रात्रिः संवृत्त इयम् परंतप ।
इमाम् चिंतयतोः सर्वम् निखिलेन कथाम् तव ॥१-४५-३॥
kṣaṇa bhūta iva nau rātriḥ saṃvṛtta iyam parantapa |
imām cintayatoḥ sarvam nikhilena kathām tava ॥1-45-3॥
Translation
O Scorcher of Foes! While reflecting entirely upon this story of yours, this night has passed like a mere moment for us both.

हे परंतप (शत्रुतापन)! आपकी इस पूरी कथा का चिंतन करते हुए हम दोनों (राम और लक्ष्मण) के लिए यह रात एक पल के समान बीत गई।
English Commentary
Rama expresses a profound psychological truth: when the mind is absorbed in the divine, time becomes irrelevant. The entire night passed as if it were a single moment (kshana bhuta iva). He uses the dual pronoun 'nau' (for us two), indicating that both he and Lakshmana shared this experience. Addressing Vishvamitra as 'Parantapa' (Subduer of enemies) acknowledges the sage's power. The word 'Chintayato' (thinking/reflecting) is key; they didn't just sleep after the story; they spent the night contemplating its details (nikhilena). This illustrates the ideal process of learning: Shravana (hearing) followed by Manana (contemplation).

राम यहाँ समय की सापेक्षता (relativity of time) का वर्णन कर रहे हैं। जब मन किसी उच्च विचार या दिव्य कथा में लीन होता है, तो समय का भान नहीं रहता। पूरी रात 'क्षण भूत इव' (एक क्षण के समान) बीत गई। राम विश्वामित्र को 'परंतप' (शत्रुओं को तपाने वाले) कहते हैं, जो विश्वामित्र के शक्तिशाली और तेजस्वी स्वरूप को दर्शाता है। 'निखिलेन' (संपूर्णता से) शब्द बताता है कि राम ने कथा के किसी अंश को छोड़ा नहीं, बल्कि पूरी रात उसका मनन (चिंतन) किया। यह 'निदिध्यासन' (गहरा चिंतन) का उदाहरण है, जो श्रवण के बाद आवश्यक होता है।
