तस्य तत् वचनम् श्रुत्वा राघवस्य महात्मनः ।
संतारम् कारयामास स ऋषि संघस्य कौशिकः ॥१-४५-८॥
tasya tat vacanam śrutvā rāghavasya mahātmanaḥ |
saṃtāram kārayāmāsa sa ṛṣi saṃghasya kauśikaḥ ॥1-45-8॥
Translation
Hearing those words of the great-souled Raghava, Kaushika (Vishvamitra) arranged for the crossing of the group of Rishis.

महात्मा राघव के उन वचनों को सुनकर, कौशिक (विश्वामित्र) ने ऋषियों के समूह को नदी पार करवाया।
English Commentary
Acting on the sensible suggestion of the 'Mahatman' (Great-souled) Rama, Vishvamitra (referred to as Kaushika, descendent of Kusha) facilitates the crossing. The phrase Rishi sanghasya (of the group of Rishis) indicates a larger entourage accompanying them, likely the hermits who joined from Siddhashrama or local sages. Santaram karayamasa implies Vishvamitra directed the operation or gave the permission to board. It illustrates the hierarchy: the prince suggests, but the Guru commands/executes. The physical crossing of the Ganga marks a transition from the tales of the wilderness to the civilized grandeur of the cities ahead.

राम के सुझाव को स्वीकार करते हुए विश्वामित्र (कौशिक) ने यात्रा आरंभ की। यहाँ 'ऋषि संघस्य' का उल्लेख है, जिससे पता चलता है कि केवल राम, लक्ष्मण और विश्वामित्र ही नहीं थे, बल्कि उनके साथ अन्य ऋषियों का एक समूह भी चल रहा था। 'संतारम् कारयामास' (पार करवाया/पार करने का प्रबंध किया) क्रिया विश्वामित्र के नेतृत्व को दर्शाती है। वे इस अभियान के नेता हैं। राम को 'महात्मनः' (महान आत्मा वाले) कहा गया है क्योंकि उन्होंने उचित समय पर उचित प्रस्ताव रखा। यह श्लोक यात्रा के अगले चरण—गंगा पार करने—की क्रिया का वर्णन करता है।
