Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अग्निम् कुशान् काष्ठम् अपः फलम् मूलम् तथैव च ।
न्यवेदयत् सहस्राक्षो यच् च अन्यत् अपि कान्क्षितम् ॥ ॥१-४६-१०॥
Agnim kuśān kāṣṭham apaḥ phalam mūlam tathaiva ca । Nyavedayat sahasrākṣo yac ca anyat api kānkṣitam ॥ ॥1-46-10॥
Translation
The Thousand-eyed one provided fire, Kusha grass, wood, water, fruits, and roots as well; and he offered whatever else was desired.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सहस्राक्ष (इन्द्र) ने उनके लिए अग्नि, कुशा (घास), लकड़ी, जल, फल और कन्दमूल जुटाए, तथा अन्य जो कुछ भी वे चाहती थीं, वह सब उन्हें निवेदन किया।
English Commentary
Indra attends to Diti's every logistical need required for her asceticism: sacrificial fire, wood, sacred grass, water, and forage. He acts essentially as a dutiful disciple attending to a Guru. By fulfilling her desires (Yac cha anyat api kankshitam), Indra ensures she has no reason to be agitated or angry with him. This total subservience is a calculated mask, allowing him to gain her trust while he bides his time for the 1000-year period to elicit a mistake.

यह श्लोक इन्द्र की सेवा के विवरण को बताता है। एक तपस्वी के लिए आवश्यक सभी वस्तुएं—हवन के लिए अग्नि और लकड़ी, आसन के लिए कुशा, जीवन के लिए जल और भोजन (फल-मूल)—इन्द्र ने स्वयं जुटाईं। यह कार्य एक ब्रह्मचारी शिष्य अपने गुरु के लिए करता है। इन्द्र ने स्वयं को दिति का सेवक बना लिया ताकि दिति का विश्वास जीता जा सके और उन्हें किसी भी प्रकार के क्रोध का अवसर न मिले, क्योंकि क्रोधित होने पर भी तपस्या भंग हो सकती थी या शाप मिल सकता था।
