Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पूर्णे वर्ष सहस्रे दश ऊने रघुनंदन ।
दितिः परम संहृष्ठा सहस्राक्षम् अथ अब्रवीत् ॥ ॥१-४६-१२॥
Pūrṇe varṣa sahasre daśa ūne raghunandana । Ditiḥ parama saṃhṛṣṭā sahasrākṣam atha abravīt ॥ ॥1-46-12॥
Translation
When the thousand years were minus ten (i.e., 990 years had passed), O descendant of Raghu, Diti was extremely thrilled and spoke to the Thousand-eyed one.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे रघुनन्दन! जब एक हजार वर्षों में केवल दस वर्ष शेष रह गए, तब दिति अत्यंत प्रसन्न हुईं और सहस्राक्ष (इन्द्र) से बोलीं।
English Commentary
The timeline reaches a critical juncture: 990 years have passed, leaving only ten. Diti is Parama Samhrishta (overjoyed), believing her victory is imminent. The arduous part is over, or so she thinks. This joy, coupled with the familiarity developed through Indra's centuries of service, lowers her guard. She addresses Indra not as an enemy, but almost as a confidant. This moment illustrates the psychological aspect of the story—how overconfidence near the finish line can be dangerous.

990 वर्ष बीत चुके थे और केवल 10 वर्ष शेष थे। दिति को अपनी विजय सुनिश्चित लग रही थी, इसलिए वह 'परम संहृष्टा' (अत्यंत प्रसन्न) थीं। लंबे समय तक इन्द्र द्वारा की गई सेवा ने दिति के हृदय को भी पिघला दिया था। सफलता के इतने निकट पहुँचकर मनुष्य अक्सर लापरवाह हो जाता है। दिति की यह प्रसन्नता और इन्द्र के प्रति संवाद ही उस घटनाक्रम की भूमिका है जहाँ वह अपनी सतर्कता खो देंगी। विश्वामित्र यहाँ राम को 'रघुनन्दन' कहकर संबोधित करते हैं।
