तस्याः शरीर विवरम् प्रविवेश पुरंदरः ।
गर्भम् च सप्तधा राम चिच्छेद परम आत्मवान् ॥१-४६-१८॥
tasyāḥ śarīra vivaram praviveśa puraṃdaraḥ । garbham ca saptadhā rāma ciccheda parama ātmavān ॥1-46-18॥
Translation
O Rama! Then Purandara (Indra), possessed of great courage, entered through the opening of her body and severed the fetus into seven pieces.

हे राम! तब परम साहसी पुरंदर (इंद्र) ने उनके शरीर के छिद्र (योनि मार्ग) से प्रवेश किया और उनके गर्भ को सात टुकड़ों में काट दिया।
English Commentary
The epithet Purandara (destroyer of forts) is apt here, as Indra breaches the fortress of Diti's womb. Using his yogic powers (likely reducing his size to a subtle form), he enters her body. The term parama atmavan suggests Indra was fully self-possessed and focused, executing a precise surgical strike rather than a frenzied attack. While the act appears ruthless, within the cosmic framework of the Deva-Asura war, it is a preemptive strike to prevent the birth of an invincible nemesis.

यहाँ इंद्र के लिए 'पुरंदर' (किलों को नष्ट करने वाला) विशेषण का प्रयोग किया गया है, जो गर्भ रूपी किले में उनके प्रवेश को सार्थक करता है। इंद्र योगमाया या सूक्ष्म रूप धारण कर दिति के शरीर में प्रविष्ट हुए। 'परम आत्मवान्' का अर्थ यहाँ इंद्र के उस धैर्य और मन की एकाग्रता से है, जिससे उन्होंने बिना दिति को जगाए इतना बड़ा कार्य किया। यह घटना क्रूर लग सकती है, लेकिन देव-असुर संघर्ष के संदर्भ में इसे 'राजनीति' और 'आत्मरक्षा' के रूप में देखा जाता है।
