न हन्तव्यम् न हन्तव्यम् इति एवम् दितिः अब्रवीत् ।
निष्पपात ततः शक्रो मातुर् वचन गौरवात् ॥१-४६-२१॥
na hantavyam na hantavyam iti evam ditiḥ abravīt । niṣpapāta tataḥ śakro mātur vacana gauravāt ॥1-46-21॥
Translation
"Do not kill it! Do not kill it!" thus spoke Diti. Thereupon, Shakra came out (of her body) out of respect for his mother's words.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब दिति चिल्लाई, "इसे मत मारो! मत मारो!" माता के वचनों के गौरव (सम्मान) के कारण शक्र (इंद्र) तुरंत बाहर निकल आए।
English Commentary
This verse displays the duality of Indra's character. The same warrior wielding the Vajra inside the womb stops immediately upon hearing Diti's plea. The phrase matur vacana gauravat (out of respect for the mother's words) indicates that despite the enmity, Indra adhered to family protocol and respect for Diti as a mother figure. He ceased the destruction and exited her body, showing that his actions were driven by necessity, not uncontrolled malice.

यहाँ इंद्र के चरित्र का दूसरा पहलू दिखता है। जो इंद्र अभी वज्र चला रहे थे, वही सौतेली माँ दिति की पुकार सुनकर रुक जाते हैं। 'मातुर् वचन गौरवात्' (माता के वचन के आदर में) वाक्यांश सिद्ध करता है कि इंद्र भले ही शत्रुता निभा रहे थे, परंतु वे मर्यादाहीन नहीं थे। उन्होंने अंतिम प्रहार रोक दिया और गर्भ से बाहर आ गए। यह दिति के मातृत्व और इंद्र के शिष्टाचार के बीच का संतुलन है।
