Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
जग्मतुः त्रिदिवम् राम कृतार्थौ इति नः श्रुतम् ।
एष देशः स काकुत्स्थ महेन्द्रात् अद्युषितः पुरा ॥१-४७-१०॥
jagmatuḥ tridivam rāma kṛtārthau iti naḥ śrutam । eṣa deśaḥ sa kākutstha mahendrāt adyuṣitaḥ purā ॥1-47-10॥
Translation
O Rama! We have heard that both of them, having accomplished their objectives, went to heaven. O Kakutstha! This is that very region where Mahendra dwelt in ancient times.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राम! हमें ऐसा सुनने में आया है कि वे दोनों कृतार्थ (सफल/संतुष्ट) होकर स्वर्ग (त्रिदिव) चले गए। हे काकुत्स्थ! यह वही देश (स्थान) है जहाँ पूर्वकाल में महेंद्र (इंद्र) ने निवास किया था।
English Commentary
Vishvamitra concludes the flashback and grounds the narrative back in the present location. He uses the term kritarthau, meaning both parties felt their purposes were served—a win-win outcome. He points out to Rama that the very ground they stand on is sanctified because Mahendra lived and served here. This connects the geographical landscape of the journey to the mythological history, a common pedagogical technique in Indian epics known as Sthala Purana.

विश्वामित्र अब कथा समाप्त करते हुए राम को वर्तमान स्थल के महत्व से जोड़ते हैं। 'कृतार्थौ' (दोनों का उद्देश्य पूरा हुआ)—इंद्र का सिंहासन सुरक्षित रहा और दिति को पुत्र मिले। विश्वामित्र इस स्थान को 'महेन्द्राध्युषित' (जहाँ महेंद्र रहे) कहकर इसकी पवित्रता स्थापित करते हैं। यह 'स्थल पुराण' (local legend) की शैली है, जहाँ तीर्थयात्रा के दौरान गुरु शिष्य को भूमि का इतिहास बताते हैं।
