विशालस्य सुतो राम हेमचन्द्रो महाबलः ।
सुचन्द्र इति विख्यातो हेमचन्द्रात् अनंतरः ॥१-४७-१३॥
viśālasya suto rāma hemacandro mahābalaḥ । sucandra iti vikhyāto hemacandrāt anaṃtaraḥ ॥1-47-13॥
Translation
O Rama! The son of Vishala was the mighty Hemachandra. And after Hemachandra, his son became famous as Suchandra.

हे राम! विशाल के पुत्र महाबली हेमचन्द्र हुए। और हेमचन्द्र के बाद (उनके पुत्र) सुचन्द्र नाम से विख्यात हुए।
English Commentary
The recitation of the genealogy begins here. In the epic tradition, knowing the lineage of a host is crucial for diplomatic protocol. Vishvamitra briefs Rama on the ancestors of the current king they are about to meet. The lineage so far: Vishala -> Hemachandra -> Suchandra. Note the lunar suffixes (-chandra) in the names, suggesting a pleasant or handsome lineage, possibly inherited from their Apsara ancestor.

यहाँ से विशाला के राजवंश की वंशावली (Genealogy) शुरू होती है। भारतीय इतिहास पुराण परंपरा में, जब कोई अतिथि किसी राजा के यहाँ जाता है, तो उस राजा के पूर्वजों का परिचय दिया जाता है। विश्वामित्र राम को यह बता रहे हैं क्योंकि वे जल्द ही इस नगरी के वर्तमान राजा सुमति से मिलने वाले हैं। वंशावली: विशाल -> हेमचन्द्र -> सुचन्द्र।
