पृष्ट्वा तु कुशलम् तत्र परस्पर समागमे ।
कथाअन्ते सुमतिः वाक्यम् व्याजहार महामुनिम् ॥१-४८-१॥
pṛṣṭvā tu kuśalam tatra paraspara samāgame । kathāante sumatiḥ vākyam vyājahāra mahāmunim ॥1-48-1॥
Translation
(Start of Sarga 48) In that mutual meeting, having inquired about each other's welfare, and at the end of their conversation, Sumati spoke these words to the great sage.

(सर्ग ४८ का प्रारंभ) इस परस्पर मिलन में एक-दूसरे का कुशल पूछने के बाद, और कथा (प्रारंभिक बातचीत) के अंत में, सुमति ने महामुनि (विश्वामित्र) से यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
Sarga 48 begins here. After the initial exchange of pleasantries and formalities (kushal prashna) are concluded, King Sumati shifts his attention to the two striking youths accompanying the sage. Katha-ante implies a transition from general talk to specific inquiry. It sets the stage for the formal introduction of Rama and Lakshmana to the King of Vishala.

यहाँ से सर्ग ४८ प्रारंभ होता है। औपचारिक शिष्टाचार पूर्ण होने के बाद, राजा का ध्यान विश्वामित्र के साथ आए दो तेजस्वी बालकों (राम और लक्ष्मण) पर जाता है। 'कथाअन्ते' का अर्थ है कि सामान्य बातचीत समाप्त होने के बाद अब मुख्य जिज्ञासा प्रकट की जा रही है। किसी भी अतिथि के साथ आए अपरिचित व्यक्तियों का परिचय पूछना गृहस्थ का धर्म भी है और स्वाभाविक जिज्ञासा भी।
