Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
इमौ कुमारौ भद्रम् ते देव तुल्य पराक्रमौ ।
गज सिंह गती वीरौ शार्दूल वृषभ उपमौ ॥१-४८-२॥
imau kumārau bhadram te deva tulya parākramau । gaja siṃha gatī vīrau śārdūla vṛṣabha upamau ॥1-48-2॥
Translation
"May you be blessed! Who are these two youths, possessing valor equal to the gods? Their gait is like that of an elephant and a lion; they are heroes resembling a tiger and a bull."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"आपका कल्याण हो! देवतुल्य पराक्रम वाले ये दो कुमार कौन हैं? इनकी चाल हाथी (गज) और सिंह जैसी (मस्त और गंभीर) है। ये वीर, बाघ (शार्दूल) और सांड (वृषभ) के समान (बलिष्ठ) हैं।"
English Commentary
This verse is a classic example of Samudrika Shastra (the science of bodily marks/omens). Sumati observes their gait—likening it to an elephant (Gaja) and a lion (Simha)—metaphors for a majestic, fearless, and steady walk, traits of royalty. Comparisons to a tiger (Shardula) and a bull (Vrishabha) emphasize their muscular build, broad shoulders, and raw masculine power. He immediately recognizes they are not ordinary ascetics but warriors of divine caliber.

यह श्लोक 'सामुद्रिक शास्त्र' (लक्षण विज्ञान) का उत्कृष्ट उदाहरण है। राजा सुमति राम-लक्ष्मण की चाल और शारीरिक गठन देख रहे हैं। 'गज सिंह गती' (हाथी और शेर जैसी चाल) राजसी आत्मविश्वास और निडरता का प्रतीक है। 'शार्दूल' (बाघ) और 'वृषभ' (बैल) की उपमा उनके कंधों की चौड़ाई और पौरुष (Virility) को दर्शाती है। सुमति उन्हें साधारण बालक नहीं, बल्कि 'देव तुल्य' (देवताओं के समान) मान रहे हैं।
