हन्त ते कथयिष्यामि शृणु तत्त्वेन राघव ।
यस्य एतत् आश्रम पदम् शप्तम् कोपान् महात्मना ॥ ॥१-४८-१५॥
Hanta te kathayishyaami shrinu tattvena raaghava |
Yasya etat aashrama padam shaptam kopaan mahaatmanaa ॥1-48-15॥
Translation
"O Raghava! I shall tell you the truth; listen. Listen to whom this hermitage site belonged and how it was cursed out of anger by a high-souled one."

"हे राघव! मैं तुम्हें यथार्थ रूप से बताता हूँ, सुनो। यह जिसका आश्रम-पद है और जैसे यह एक महात्मा के क्रोध से शापित हुआ, वह सब सुनो।"
English Commentary
Vishvamitra begins his narration with Hanta, an interjection soliciting attention. He promises to narrate the tattvena (the essence or absolute truth) of the place. The sage outlines the core theme immediately: this was once a holy abode belonging to a Mahatma (great soul), but it fell into ruin due to kopa (anger) resulting in a curse (shaptam). This introduces the moral complexity of the upcoming story—even great souls are susceptible to anger, and such anger has lasting environmental and spiritual consequences. Vishvamitra prepares Rama to understand the gravity of the situation he is about to rectify.
