Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विश्वामित्र वचः श्रुत्वा राघवः सह लक्ष्मणः ।
विश्वामित्रम् पुरस्कृत्य आश्रमम् प्रविवेश ह ॥ ॥१-४९-१२॥
Viśvāmitra vacaḥ śrutvā rāghavaḥ saha lakṣmaṇaḥ । Viśvāmitram puraskṛtya āśramam praviveśa ha ॥ ॥1-49-12॥
Translation
Hearing the words of Vishwamitra, Raghava (Rama), along with Lakshmana, entered the hermitage, placing Vishwamitra in the forefront.
हिंदी अनुवाद
विश्वामित्र के वचन सुनकर, लक्ष्मण सहित राघव (राम) ने विश्वामित्र को आगे करके आश्रम में प्रवेश किया।
English Commentary
This verse highlights the exquisite etiquette (Maryada) of Sri Rama. Even though he is the one destined to perform the miracle of redemption, he does not rush in. He places his Guru, Vishwamitra, in front (Puraskritya) before entering the hermitage. This signifies deep respect for the hierarchy; a disciple follows the master. It portrays Rama's humility and adherence to the code of conduct expected of a noble Kshatriya and a student.

यह श्लोक शिष्य-मर्यादा और शिष्टाचार का उत्तम उदाहरण है। यद्यपि राम क्षत्रिय राजकुमार हैं और एक महान कार्य (उद्धार) करने जा रहे हैं, फिर भी वे अपने गुरु को 'पुरस्कृत्य' (आगे रखकर) ही प्रवेश करते हैं। वैदिक संस्कृति में किसी भी पवित्र स्थान या आश्रम में प्रवेश करते समय बड़ों या गुरु का नेतृत्व स्वीकार करना आवश्यक माना जाता है। राम का यह विनम्र आचरण उनकी महानता को और बढ़ा देता है।
