Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
शापस्य अन्तम् उपागम्य तेषाम् दर्शनम् आगता।
राघवौ तु ततः तस्याः पादौ जगृहतुः मुदा ॥ ॥१-४९-१७॥
Śāpasya antam upāgamya teṣām darśanam āgatā। Rāghavau tu tatah tasyāḥ pādau jagṛhatuḥ mudā ॥ ॥1-49-17॥
Translation
The curse having reached its end, she became visible to them. Then, the two Raghavas (Rama and Lakshmana) joyfully touched her feet.
हिंदी अनुवाद
शाप का अंत होने पर वह उन (राम-लक्ष्मण) को दिखाई दीं। तब दोनों राघवों (राम और लक्ष्मण) ने प्रसन्नतापूर्वक उनके (अहल्या के) चरण स्पर्श किए।
English Commentary
This is a pivotal and profound moment in the Ramayana. Contrary to what one might expect—a sinner bowing to the savior—Rama and Lakshmana bow down and touch Ahalya's feet. This act signifies immense respect. Rama recognizes her status as the wife of a Maharishi and an elder (Guru-patni). By touching her feet joyfully (Muda), Rama validates her purification and instantly restores her social dignity, showing that a repentant soul is worthy of the highest honor.

यह रामायण के सबसे क्रांतिकारी और मर्मस्पर्शी क्षणों में से एक है। सामाजिक कलंक झेल रही एक नारी का उद्धार करने के बाद, राम उसे उपदेश नहीं देते, बल्कि 'पादौ जगृहतुः' (चरण पकड़ते हैं)। राम मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम हैं; वे जानते हैं कि अहल्या ऋषि-पत्नी हैं और आयु में उनसे बड़ी (माता समान) हैं। उनका 'पाप' मिट चुका है और उनका तप पूजनीय है। राम का यह विनम्र कार्य अहल्या की खोई हुई प्रतिष्ठा को तुरंत पुनर्स्थापित कर देता है।
