शतक्रतोः वचः श्रुत्वा देवाः स अग्नि पुरोगमाः ।
पितृ देवान् उपेत्य आहुः सह सर्वैः मरुत् गणैः ॥ ॥१-४९-५॥
śatakratoḥ vacaḥ śrutvā devāḥ sa agni purogamāḥ |
pitṛ devān upetya āhuḥ saha sarvaiḥ marut gaṇaiḥ ॥1-49-5॥
Translation
Hearing the words of Shatakratu (Indra), the gods led by Agni, along with all the Maruts, approached the Pitru-devas (ancestor gods) and spoke.
हिंदी अनुवाद
शतक्रतु (इंद्र) के वचन सुनकर, अग्नि आदि देवता और मरुद्गणों ने पितृ-देवों के पास जाकर (इस प्रकार) कहा।
English Commentary
The gods, led by Agni, accept Indra's logic and take action. They approach the Pitru-devas (the deities of the ancestors). This direction is significant ritually. The Pitrus are concerned with lineage and offerings, and the solution involves a biological transplant related to fertility, which falls under their jurisdiction in this specific ritual context. The involvement of Agni (the messenger/mouth of gods) ensures the communication is formal. This transition sets the stage for the specific surgical/ritual solution that follows, rooting the myth in Vedic sacrificial traditions.
