ताम् अग्निमद्भिः गुणवद्भिः आवृताम्द्विजोत्तमैः वेद षडङ्ग पारगैः ।
सहस्रदैः सत्य रतैः महात्मभिःमहर्षि कल्पैः ऋषिभिः च केवलैः ॥१-५-२३॥
tām agnimadbhir guṇavadbhir āvṛtām dvijottamaiḥ veda ṣaḍaṅga pāragaiḥ |
sahasradaiḥ satya rataiḥ mahātmabhiḥ maharṣi kalpaiḥ ṛṣibhiḥ ca kevalaiḥ ॥1-5-23॥
Translation
The one who is enveloped by the virtue of fire and water, is of the highest among the twice-born, possessing the sixfold Vedas; surrounded by thousands of great souls and sages, he is indeed the perfect one.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जिसे अग्नि और जल के गुणवान वेदों से आवृत्त किया गया है, वे द्विजों के श्रेष्ठतम और जिनके पास छः अंग हैं, वे सत्य पर रत हजारों महात्मा और महर्षि, ऋषियों द्वारा केवल हैं।
English Commentary
This shloka describes the great souls who are endowed with the Vedas and other special virtues. It refers to the highest among the twice-born, indicating esteemed scholars. It is crucial that such scholars are imbued with religious and moral qualities. Here, 'fire' and 'water' are mentioned as symbols of purity and knowledge. This shloka inspires us to reside at the feet of such scholars to acquire wisdom, leading us towards truth and excellence.
