इक्ष्वाकूणामतिरथो यज्वा धर्मपरो वशी ।
महर्षिकल्पो राजर्षिस्त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुतः ॥१-६-१॥
ikṣvākūṇāmatiratho yajvā dharmaparo vaśī । maharṣikalpo rājarṣistriṣu lokeṣu viśrutaḥ ॥1-6-1॥
Translation
Among the Ikshvaku lineage, he is a mighty chariot fighter, dedicated to sacrifice, devoted to Dharma, and possessed of great control. He is comparable to great sages and renowned among royal sages in the three worlds.

इक्ष्वाकु की सन्तान में, अति बलशाली, यज्ञ हेतु समर्पित, धर्म में स्थिर तथा वशीकरण में दक्ष राजा, महर्षि के समान और राजर्षि में प्रसिद्ध है।
English Commentary
This shloka describes the character of King Dasharatha. He was born in the Ikshvaku lineage and possessed immense strength. His deep interest in sacrifices and unwavering dedication to Dharma were notable qualities. He exhibited traits akin to great sages and was renowned among royal sages across the three worlds. This indicates that the king's identity was intertwined with spiritual and righteous endeavors, ensuring that even in his regal responsibilities, Dharma was predominant. Such a personality is significant not only among common people but also holds paramount importance among kings.

यह श्लोक राजा दशरथ के स्वरूप का उल्लेख करता है। वह इक्ष्वाकु वंश में जन्मा था और उसके पास अपार शक्ति थी। यज्ञ में उसकी विशेष रुचि थी और वह धर्म का पालन करने में सर्वदा तत्पर रहता था। उसके व्यक्तित्व में महर्षियों जैसी विशेषताएं थीं और वह तीनों लोकों में राजर्षियों में प्रसिद्ध था। इसका अर्थ यह है कि राजा का संबंध आध्यात्मिक और धर्मिक कार्यों से भी जुड़ा था और उन्होंने अपने राजसी कार्यों में भी धर्म को प्रधानता दी। इस प्रकार का व्यक्तित्व न केवल सामान्य लोगों में अपितु राजाओं में भी विशेष महत्व रखता है।
