Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
यथा अर्हम् ऋषिभिः सर्वैः समागच्छत् प्रहृष्टवत् ।
अथ राजा मुनि श्रेष्ठम् कृत अंजलिः अभाषत ॥ ॥१-५०-१०॥
Yathā arham ṛṣibhiḥ sarvaiḥ samāgacchat prahṛṣṭavat । Atha rājā muni śreṣṭham kṛta añjaliḥ abhāṣata ॥ ॥1-50-10॥
Translation
Vishwamitra cheerfully met with all the other sages present there according to protocol. Then, the King (Janaka), with folded hands, spoke to the best of munis.
हिंदी अनुवाद
विश्वामित्र जी वहां उपस्थित अन्य सभी ऋषियों से यथायोग्य और प्रसन्नतापूर्वक मिले। तत्पश्चात, राजा (जनक) ने हाथ जोड़कर मुनिश्रेष्ट से कहा।
English Commentary
This verse captures the communal etiquette of the Vedic sages. Vishwamitra does not ignore his peers; he greets the other assembled rishis with joy and appropriate protocol (Yathā arham). Only after these social courtesies does King Janaka address him. The King’s gesture of folded hands (Krita-anjali) signifies his reverence for spiritual authority, despite his own status as a monarch and a philosopher.

यह श्लोक ऋषियों के समाज में आपसी शिष्टाचार को दर्शाता है। विश्वामित्र केवल राजा से नहीं मिलते, बल्कि वहां उपस्थित अन्य ऋषियों का भी 'यथार्हम्' (जिसका जो सम्मान है, उसके अनुसार) अभिवादन करते हैं। यह एक विनम्रतापूर्ण मिलन है। इसके बाद राजा जनक, जो यद्यपि स्वयं एक महान ज्ञानी हैं, हाथ जोड़कर ('कृतांजलि') विश्वामित्र से बात शुरू करते हैं, जो उनकी विनयशीलता का परिचायक है।
