Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पुनः तम् परिपप्रच्छ प्रांजलिः प्रयतो नृपः ।
इमौ कुमारौ भद्रम् ते देव तुल्य पराक्रमौ ॥ ॥१-५०-१७॥
Punaḥ tam paripapraccha prāñjaliḥ prayato nṛpaḥ । Imau kumārau bhadram te deva tulya parākramau ॥ ॥1-50-17॥
Translation
Then the King, with folded hands and a restrained mind, asked him again: "May prosperity be yours! Who are these two youths, possessing valor equal to the gods?"
हिंदी अनुवाद
फिर उस राजा ने संयत (प्रयत) होकर और हाथ जोड़कर उनसे (विश्वामित्र से) पुनः पूछा—"आपका कल्याण हो! देव-तुल्य पराक्रम वाले ये दोनों कुमार कौन हैं?"
English Commentary
This is the moment of first impact. Despite his detachment, King Janaka is captivated by the presence of Rama and Lakshmana. He interrupts the ritual talk to ask about them. The phrase Deva tulya parakramau (valor equal to gods) suggests that their physical build and aura radiate a power that is immediately palpable, even before they have demonstrated any skill.

अब राजा का ध्यान पूरी तरह राम और लक्ष्मण पर केंद्रित है। यद्यपि जनक 'विदेह' (विरक्त) हैं, फिर भी राम का व्यक्तित्व उन्हें इतना आकर्षित करता है कि वे मुनि से पूछते हैं। 'भद्रम् ते' (आपका कल्याण हो) एक शिष्टाचार है। जनक पहली ही नज़र में भाँप लेते हैं कि ये साधारण बालक नहीं, बल्कि 'देव तुल्य पराक्रमौ' (देवताओं के समान पराक्रम) हैं। यह राम के तेज का प्रभाव है।
