Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
वर आयुध धरौ वीरौ कस्य पुत्रौ महामुने ।
भूषयन्तौ इमम् देशम् चन्द्र सूर्यौ इव अंबरम् ॥ ॥१-५०-२०॥
Vara āyudha dharau vīrau kasya putrau mahāmune । Bhūṣayantau imam deśam candra sūryau iva ambaram ॥ ॥1-50-20॥
Translation
"Bearing excellent weapons, whose sons are these heroes? They adorn this place just as the Moon and the Sun adorn the sky."

"श्रेष्ठ आयुध (हथियार) धारण किए हुए ये वीर किसके पुत्र हैं? ये इस स्थान को वैसे ही सुशोभित कर रहे हैं जैसे चन्द्रमा और सूर्य आकाश को सुशोभित करते हैं।"
English Commentary
Janaka notes their weaponry—Vara ayudha (superior weapons)—hinting at their warrior status. The simile of the Sun and Moon (Chandra Suryau) adorning the sky is powerful. It suggests that just as celestial bodies light up the void, these two princes illuminate the sacrificial arena with their radiance. It implies that without them, the assembly, despite its grandeur, would be like a sky without luminaries.

'वर आयुध' (श्रेष्ठ हथियार) बताता है कि उनके पास साधारण धनुष-बाण नहीं, बल्कि दिव्य अस्त्र-शस्त्र हैं। 'चन्द्र-सूर्यौ' की उपमा राम और लक्ष्मण के लिए दी गई है। राम सूर्य की तरह तेजस्वी हैं और लक्ष्मण चन्द्रमा की तरह (या इसके विपरीत, दोनों ही प्रकाशमान हैं)। जनक को लगता है कि उनके यज्ञ मंडप की शोभा इन बालकों के कारण बढ़ गई है।
