विश्वामित्रम् अनुप्राप्तम् श्रुत्वा नृपवरः तदा ।
शतानंदम् पुरस्कृत्य पुरोहितम् अनिन्दितम् ॥ ॥१-५०-६॥
Viśvāmitram anuprāptam śrutvā nṛpavaraḥ tadā । Śatānandam puraskṛtya purohitam aninditam ॥ ॥1-50-6॥
Translation
Hearing that Vishwamitra had arrived, the best of kings (Janaka) placed his blameless priest Satananda at the forefront.

विश्वामित्र को आया हुआ सुनकर, नृपश्रेष्ठ (जनक) ने अपने निंदारहित (दोषमुक्त) पुरोहित शतानन्द को आगे किया।
English Commentary
This introduction creates a dramatic link between the previous episode and the current one. King Janaka hears of Vishwamitra's arrival and immediately sends his chief priest, Satananda, to welcome him. Satananda is the son of Ahalya and Gautama. The epithet Aninditam (blameless/faultless) is significant; despite the controversy surrounding his parents, Satananda holds a position of impeccable repute. His presence here sets the stage for him to hear the news of his mother's redemption directly from Vishwamitra.

यह एक अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण श्लोक है। जनक के पुरोहित 'शतानन्द' हैं। शतानन्द, गौतम और अहल्या के ज्येष्ठ पुत्र हैं। वाल्मीकि ने यहाँ शतानन्द के लिए 'अनिन्दितम्' (जिसकी कोई निंदा न कर सके) विशेषण प्रयोग किया है, जो शायद उनकी माता (अहल्या) से जुड़ी लोक-चर्चाओं के संदर्भ में उनके स्वयं के उज्ज्वल चरित्र को रेखांकित करने के लिए है। जनक जानते हैं कि विश्वामित्र का स्वागत करने के लिए शतानन्द से उपयुक्त कोई नहीं हो सकता।
