तस्य तत् वचनम् श्रुत्वा विश्वामित्रस्य धीमतः ।
हृष्ट रोमा महातेजाः शताअनन्दो महातपाः ॥ ॥१-५१-१॥
Tasya tat vachanam shrutvaa vishvaamitrasya dhimatah |
Hrishta romaa mahaatejaah shataanando mahaatapaah ॥1-51-1॥
Translation
Hearing those words of the wise Vishvamitra, the great ascetic Shatananda, possessed of great luster, was thrilled with hair standing on end.

बुद्धिमान विश्वामित्र के उन वचनों को सुनकर, महान तपस्वी और महातेजस्वी शतानन्द जी रोमांचित हो उठे (उनके रोंगटे खड़े हो गए)।
English Commentary
This verse introduces Shatananda, the Purohit (High Priest) of Janaka and the eldest son of Gautama and Ahalya. The physical reaction described—'hrishta romaa' (horripilation or goosebumps)—signifies intense emotional overwhelm and joy. Upon hearing Vishvamitra narrate the redemption of his mother, the ascetic barrier of Shatananda breaks down into pure filial love and relief. Despite being a 'Mahaatapaah' (great ascetic) with control over senses, the news of his mother’s liberation by Rama moves him deeply.

यहाँ से ५१वां सर्ग प्रारंभ होता है और शतानन्द का प्रवेश होता है। शतानन्द राजा जनक के कुलगुरु हैं, लेकिन सबसे महत्वपूर्ण बात यह है कि वे गौतम ऋषि और अहल्या के ज्येष्ठ पुत्र हैं। विश्वामित्र के मुख से अपनी माता के उद्धार की बात सुनकर उनका 'हृष्ट रोमा' (रोमांचित) होना स्वाभाविक है। एक पुत्र के रूप में वे वर्षों से अपनी माता के शाप-मोचन की प्रतीक्षा कर रहे थे। उनका 'महातपा' होना यह सिद्ध करता है कि वे भी अपने माता-पिता के समान तपस्वी हैं, किन्तु राम के प्रभाव से वे भावविभोर हो गए।
