Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तत् श्रुत्वा वचनम् तस्य विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः ।
प्रति उवाच शतानंदम् वाक्यज्ञो वाक्य कोविदम् ॥ ॥१-५१-१०॥
tat śrutvā vacanam tasya viśvāmitro mahāmuniḥ |
prati uvāca śatānandam vākyajño vākya kovidam ॥1-51-10॥
Translation
Hearing those words of Satananda, the great sage Vishwamitra, who is an expert in speech, replied to Satananda, who was himself skilled in eloquence.

शतानंद के उन वचनों को सुनकर, महान मुनि और वाणी के मर्म को जानने वाले विश्वामित्र ने, बोलने में चतुर शतानंद को उत्तर दिया।
English Commentary
This verse sets the stage for a dialogue between two eloquent sages. Both Vishwamitra and Satananda are described as masters of speech ("vakyajno" and "vakya kovidam"). Satananda, the royal priest of Mithila, is skilled in articulation, but Vishwamitra is equally profound in his understanding of the essence of speech. Vishwamitra recognizes that Satananda's inquiry is laden with filial emotion and a desire for confirmation regarding the miraculous event of Ahalya's redemption. As a mentor and the architect of that redemption, Vishwamitra prepares to answer with precision and empathy appropriate for the context.
