कदाचित् तु महातेजा योजयित्वा वरूथिनीम् ।
अक्षौहिणी परिवृतः परिचक्राम मेदिनीम् ॥ ॥१-५१-२१॥
kadācit tu mahātejā yojayitvā varūthinīm |
akṣauhiṇī parivṛtaḥ paricakrāma medinīm ॥1-51-21॥
Translation
Once, that highly resplendent king (Vishwamitra) marshaled his forces and, surrounded by an Akshauhini army, set out to tour the earth.

एक बार उन महातेजस्वी (राजा विश्वामित्र) ने अपनी सेना को एकत्रित किया और एक अक्षौहिणी सेना से घिरे हुए पृथ्वी की परिक्रमा (भ्रमण) के लिए निकले।
English Commentary
This verse sets the scene for the pivotal encounter. Vishwamitra travels with a full 'Akshauhini' army, a massive ancient military formation consisting of tens of thousands of elephants, chariots, cavalry, and infantry. The phrase 'paricakrama medinim' suggests a tour of conquest or inspection of the entire earth, befitting a Chakravarti (universal monarch). The sheer scale of his entourage highlights his worldly power and dominance, which serves as a stark contrast to the simple, spiritual power he is about to encounter at Vashistha’s hermitage.

यहाँ राजा विश्वामित्र के वैभव का वर्णन है। 'अक्षौहिणी' सेना एक विशाल सैन्य इकाई होती है (जिसमें २१,८७० हाथी, २१,८७० रथ, ६५,६१० घोड़े और १,०९,३५० पैदल सैनिक होते हैं)। इतनी विशाल सेना लेकर चलने का उद्देश्य केवल भ्रमण नहीं, बल्कि अपनी शक्ति का प्रदर्शन और राज्य का निरीक्षण भी था। 'परिचक्राम मेदिनीम्' का अर्थ है कि वे अपने राज्य की सीमाओं से परे पूरी पृथ्वी का चक्कर लगाने निकले थे। यह उनके चक्रवर्ती सम्राट होने और उनके अपार प्रभाव को दर्शाता है। नियति उन्हें उस स्थान की ओर ले जा रही थी जहाँ उनका जीवन पूरी तरह बदलने वाला था।
