Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
देव दानव गन्धर्वैः किन्नरैः उपशोभितम् ।
प्रशांत हरिण आकीर्णम् द्विज संघ निषेवितम् ॥ ॥१-५१-२४॥
deva dānava gandharvaiḥ kinnaraiḥ upaśobhitam |
praśānta hariṇa ākīrṇam dvija saṃgha niṣevitam ॥1-51-24॥
Translation
It was adorned by Devas, Danavas, Gandharvas, and Kinnaras. It was filled with peaceful deer and frequented by flocks of birds.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह आश्रम देवताओं, दानवों, गंधर्वों और किन्नरों से सुशोभित था। वहाँ शांत स्वभाव वाले हिरण घूम रहे थे और पक्षियों (द्विज) के समूह वहाँ निवास करते थे।
English Commentary
This verse highlights the neutralizing power of the ashram's sanctity. Remarkably, both Devas (gods) and Danavas (demons), usually eternal rivals, are present here, suggesting that the ashram is a neutral sanctuary where cosmic conflicts are suspended. The presence of Gandharvas and Kinnaras adds an element of celestial beauty and culture. The 'peaceful deer' serves as a motif for the total absence of fear or violence (Ahimsa), creating a paradise-like atmosphere that commands respect even from celestial beings.

यह श्लोक आश्रम की अलौकिक महिमा को और बढ़ाता है। यहाँ देवता और दानव—जो आपस में शत्रु हैं—दोनों का उल्लेख है। वसिष्ठ के तपोबल के कारण यहाँ बैर-भाव समाप्त हो जाता था। गंधर्व और किन्नर संगीत और कला के प्रतीक हैं, जो आश्रम की सात्विक सुंदरता को दर्शाते हैं। 'प्रशांत हरिण' (शांत हिरण) भयमुक्त वातावरण का प्रतीक है। 'द्विज संघ' का अर्थ यहाँ पक्षियों के समूह से है (द्विज का अर्थ पक्षी और ब्राह्मण दोनों होता है, यहाँ संदर्भानुसार पक्षी और ब्राह्मण ऋषि दोनों हो सकते हैं, पर सामान्यतः वन वर्णन में पक्षी लिया जाता है)।
