तम् दृष्ट्वा परम प्रीतो विश्वामित्रो महाबलः ।
प्रणतो विनयात् वीरो वसिष्ठम् जपताम् वरम् ॥ ॥१-५२-१॥
tam dṛṣṭvā parama prīto viśvāmitro mahābalaḥ |
praṇato vinayāt vīro vasiṣṭham japatām varam ॥1-52-1॥
Translation
Seeing Vashistha, the best among those who chant, the mighty and heroic Vishwamitra was filled with great delight and bowed to him with humility.

जप करने वालों में श्रेष्ठ वसिष्ठ को देखकर महाबली और वीर विश्वामित्र अत्यंत प्रसन्न हुए और विनम्रतापूर्वक उन्हें प्रणाम किया।
English Commentary
Sarga 52 opens with a display of proper etiquette. Despite his immense royal power, Vishwamitra approaches Vashistha with 'vinaya' (humility). He bows to the sage, acknowledging Vashistha's spiritual superiority ('japatam varam' - best among those who meditate). Vishwamitra feels 'parama preetah' (supreme delight) upon seeing the sage, indicating that his initial intentions were peaceful and respectful. This establishes that the impending conflict arises not from premeditated malice, but from a sudden, overwhelming desire sparked by what he observes later.

सर्ग ५२ का आरंभ विश्वामित्र की विनम्रता से होता है। यद्यपि वे एक अहंकारी राजा के रूप में जाने जा सकते हैं, किंतु यहाँ वे शिष्टाचार का पूर्ण पालन करते हैं। वसिष्ठ को देखते ही उन्हें 'परम प्रीति' (अत्यंत प्रसन्नता) हुई। उन्होंने 'विनयात्' (विनम्रता से) प्रणाम किया। यह दर्शाता है कि संघर्ष का कारण व्यक्तिगत द्वेष नहीं, बल्कि बाद में उत्पन्न हुई परिस्थिति (कामधेनु का लोभ) थी। अभी तक संबंध गुरु-राजा या ऋषि-अतिथि के रूप में मधुर और मर्यादित हैं।
