ततो वसिष्ठो भगवान् कथा अन्ते रघुनंदन ।
विश्वामित्रम् इदम् वाक्यम् उवाच प्रहसन् इव ॥ ॥१-५२-१२॥
Tato vasiṣṭho bhagavān kathā ante raghunandana |
Viśvāmitram idam vākyam uvāca prahasan iva ॥1-52-12॥
Translation
(Addressing Rama as Raghunandana) O scion of Raghu! At the conclusion of their conversation, the reverend Vashistha, smiling gently, spoke these words to Vishvamitra.

(कथावाचक वाल्मीकि/शतानन्द राम से कहते हैं) हे रघुनंदन! कथा और वार्तालाप के अंत में, भगवान वसिष्ठ ने मुस्कुराते हुए विश्वामित्र से यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
The phrase prahasan iva (as if smiling) adds a layer of grace and confidence to Vashistha's demeanor. The conversation is over, and now the duty of a host begins. Vashistha is addressed as Bhagavān, indicating his god-like spiritual potency. His smile suggests that he is not overwhelmed by the prospect of hosting an emperor and his vast army; he possesses the divine resource (Kamadhenu) to manage it effortlessly. This transition marks the shift from verbal hospitality (inquiry of welfare) to material hospitality (offering food). The address "Raghunandana" reminds the listener (Rama) that this story explains the history between the very Sage standing next to him (Vishvamitra) and his family priest (Vashistha).

यहाँ 'प्रहसन् इव' (मानो मुस्कुराते हुए) वाक्यांश अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। वसिष्ठ जी की मुस्कान में स्नेह और आतिथ्य का भाव है। वार्तालाप समाप्त होने के बाद, अब समय है क्रियान्वयन का—अर्थात् अतिथि सत्कार का। वसिष्ठ जी को 'भगवान' कहा गया है, जो उनके ऐश्वर्य और सामर्थ्य (तपस्या की शक्ति) को दर्शाता है। वे विश्वामित्र की विशाल सेना को देखकर चिंतित नहीं हैं, बल्कि मुस्कुरा रहे हैं क्योंकि वे जानते हैं कि उनके पास कामधेनु (शबला) है जो किसी भी असंभव कार्य को संभव कर सकती है। यह मुस्कान आत्मविश्वास की है। 'रघुनंदन' संबोधन श्रोता (श्री राम) को कथा से जोड़े रखने के लिए है, याद दिलाते हुए कि यह इतिहास उनके ही गुरु (विश्वामित्र) और कुलगुरु (वसिष्ठ) का है।
