आतिथ्यम् कर्तुम् इच्छामि बलस्य अस्य महाबल ।
तव च एव अप्रमेयस्य यथा अर्हम् संप्रतीच्छ मे ॥ ॥१-५२-१३॥
Ātithyam kartum icchāmi balasya asya mahābala |
Tava ca eva aprameyasya yathā arham saṃpratīccha me ॥1-52-13॥
Translation
O mighty Vishvamitra! I wish to offer hospitality befitting your status to you, whose power is immeasurable, and to your entire army. Please accept my offer.

हे महाबली विश्वामित्र! मैं आपकी इस विशाल सेना का और अमित प्रभावशाली (अप्रमेय) आपका यथोचित सत्कार (आतिथ्य) करना चाहता हूँ। कृपया आप मेरा यह अनुरोध स्वीकार करें।
English Commentary
Vashistha’s offer is audacious by worldly standards: a forest-dwelling hermit proposing to feast an Emperor and his entire military division. He addresses Vishvamitra as Aprameya (immeasurable/inscrutable), acknowledging the King's vast influence. The key phrase is yathā arham (as is befitting). Vashistha intends to provide hospitality that matches the King's royal status, not the Sage's ascetic status. This foreshadows the miracle of the wish-fulfilling cow. The invitation is framed not as a duty, but as a desire (icchāmi) of the Sage, making it harder for the King to refuse without being rude. It sets the stage for the demonstration of Brahma-teja (spiritual power) surpassing material limitations, as the Sage prepares to generate immense resources out of thin air.

वसिष्ठ जी का प्रस्ताव साधारण नहीं है। एक वनवासी ऋषि द्वारा पूरी शाही सेना (अक्षौहिणी सेना) को भोजन कराने का प्रस्ताव आश्चर्यजनक है। वसिष्ठ जी विश्वामित्र को 'महाबल' और 'अप्रमेय' (जिसकी शक्ति मापी न जा सके) कहकर उनका सम्मान बढ़ाते हैं। 'यथा अर्हम्' का अर्थ है—आपकी योग्यता के अनुसार। अर्थात्, वसिष्ठ जी केवल फल-फूल नहीं, बल्कि एक राजा के स्तर का राजसी भोजन देना चाहते हैं। यह भारतीय संस्कृति के 'अतिथि देवो भव' का चरम उदाहरण है। मेजबान अपनी क्षमता से बढ़कर अतिथि को प्रसन्न करना चाहता है। वसिष्ठ जी जानते हैं कि विश्वामित्र संकोच करेंगे, इसलिए वे 'इच्छामि' (मेरी इच्छा है) कहकर इसे अपना व्यक्तिगत अनुरोध और प्रसन्नता का विषय बना देते हैं।
