Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवम् उक्तो वसिष्ठेन विश्वामित्रो महामतिः ।
कृतम् इति अब्रवीत् राजा पूजा वाक्येन मे त्वया ॥ ॥१-५२-१५॥
Evam ukto vasiṣṭhena viśvāmitro mahāmatiḥ |
Kṛtam iti abravīt rājā pūjā vākyena me tvayā ॥1-52-15॥
Translation
Addressed thus by Vashistha, the highly intelligent King Vishvamitra said, "Your kind words alone are sufficient hospitality (worship) for me."

वसिष्ठ जी के ऐसा कहने पर, महाबुद्धिमान राजा विश्वामित्र ने कहा, "आपके द्वारा कहे गए मधुर वचनों से ही मेरा सत्कार (पूजा) हो गया।"
English Commentary
Vishvamitra is described as Mahāmatiḥ (greatly intelligent/wise). He displays keen emotional intelligence and social awareness. Understanding the apparent limitations of an ashram, he assumes the Sage cannot physically feed an army. To prevent embarrassment for his host, he politely declines, stating that the vākyena (words of welcome) constitute the real pūjā (honor). This is the mark of a noble guest—one who values the sentiment behind the offer more than the material consumption. It reveals Vishvamitra’s initial intent: he did not come to plunder or demand; he came with respect. His refusal is rooted in the logic of reality as he sees it, unaware of the supernatural reality Vashistha commands.
